Healing minds through AI with empathy

The Hanzade Foundation combines cutting-edge artificial intelligence with human compassion to support the mental health of children affected by war and conflict. We believe that technology, guided by empathy and cultural understanding, can provide hope and healing to the world's most vulnerable young minds.

About Us

Our Founder

Hanzade was founded by JoJo Harrington, a Cornell University MS in Business Analytics graduate whose work spans statistical modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and humanitarian technology. Her independent research focuses on developing culturally responsive, trauma-informed AI systems for children affected by war and displacement.

Her work brings together data science, responsible AI, and trauma-informed principles to explore how emerging technologies can support children in humanitarian and conflict-affected settings.

Our Purpose

The Hanzade Foundation bridges the gap between advanced technology and humanitarian need. We develop ethical AI solutions specifically designed for children experiencing trauma from war, displacement, and conflict.

Our approach prioritizes cultural sensitivity, privacy protection, and human oversight, ensuring that technology serves as a bridge to healing rather than a replacement for human connection.

Our Projects

Compass: An Ethical AI Companion for Children in Crisis

Our flagship initiative is developing Compass, an advanced language model specifically designed to provide emotional support and coping strategies for children affected by trauma. This groundbreaking tool combines state-of-the-art AI with rigorous ethical safeguards.

Human-in-the-Loop Protection

Compass is designed for human-in-the-loop oversight, with clinical collaboration and professional review intended to guide safeguarding, escalation protocols, and future deployment.

Cultural Sensitivity

Compass is trained on diverse cultural contexts and languages, respecting local traditions, beliefs, and communication styles.

Privacy First

Zero data retention policy with end-to-end encryption ensures complete confidentiality and protection of vulnerable users.

Trauma-Informed Design

Compass incorporates trauma-informed principles into its architecture and response framework, with clinical validation and collaboration forming a critical part of its continued development.
